MOL Pakistan operating in TAL block (Kohat, Karak & Hangu) also suffers from an unacceptably low level of education. Institutions, professional educators, teaching aids, learning materials, and educational technologies are at a minimal level in these areas and are further aggravated at secondary and graduation level. However to meet the social and economic costs of higher education it is next to impossible for students of these areas and has put them beyond reach of acquiring higher education. This lack of opportunity threatens to block the professional development of a whole generation of future leaders in these financially backward areas.
Taking cognizance of the fact and as requested by the local people of the TAL Block, Community Development Department of MOL Pakistan, launched its Intermediate Scholarship Program on experimental basis in 2005.
A scholarship is an award of access to an institution, or a financial aid award for an individual student scholar, for the purpose of furthering their education. Scholarships are awarded based on a range of criteria which usually reflect the values and purposes of the donor or founder of the award.
Initially, 10 scholarships were awarded to the Intermediate students including two female students of Tehsil Banda Daud Shah in District Karak in 2005. Later on during the next session, it was extended to district Hangu besides increase in number of students and initiation of Technical scholarship for students of Engineering, Diploma of Associate Engineers (DAE) and Geology Disciplines.
The 2nd Scholarship (2007-2008) was completed in December, 2008 totaling 31 scholars of both Intermediate and Technical studies for 2 years.
A simple but impressive ceremony was held at MOL Pakistan, Islamabad Office on 14th April, 2009, wherein completion certificates were distributed amongst the successful scholars by Deputy Managing Director, MOL Pakistan.
The ceremony started with a recitation from the Holy Quran followed by opening remarks of Manager, Community Development, MOL Pakistan, Mr. Niaz Safdar, who spoke about the objectives of community development program of MOL Pakistan in general and scholarship program in particular. He added that seven scholars of engineering discipline after completing their degrees had been offered employment in MOL Pakistan and were now a proud part of the company.

Both the scholars said that it was next to impossible for them to focus on their studies prior to receiving this scholarship. They added that before the award of scholarship, it was very difficult to meet the expenses from their meager resources and they were not sure to complete their studies. They said that this scholarship is but a beacon of light for every student of the area in their academic career which has put a new zeal in the students to compete for achieving this honor. This competition will help to bring positive impacts on the social and economic lives of the people of the area. They stressed for expansions and continuation of this program in future.
Later on, after distributing certificates amongst the scholars, Deputy Managing Director, MOL Pakistan, Mr.Majdi Ahmad said that MOL Pakistan will continue its social welfare program for the area and will strive to expand it even more vigorously in the future.
